Servers running GrainFed
Every server here is independently run. Each sets its own rules about who may join and what may be posted, and none of them is operated by this project.
nicagram.com
170 accounts Photography Join by application
A community for people in and around Nicaragua, and the first instance to run GrainFed in production. Signups are reviewed by a person rather than being open, so there is a short application before an account is created.
One server, and the project says so plainly. This is a short list because GrainFed is young. It is not a claim of scarcity or exclusivity — if you are choosing where to keep photographs you care about, the wider Pixelfed directory has many long-running communities, and GrainFed federates with all of them either way.
Getting listed
If you run a public GrainFed server and want it here, open an issue or a pull request on the site repository with:
- the domain,
- a sentence about who it is for,
- its primary language and where it is hosted,
- whether signups are open, by application, or closed.
Approximate figures are fine and will drift; nobody minds. Listings are removed when a server stops answering or stops running GrainFed.
Choosing one
If you are new to this: the server you pick matters less than it feels like it should. Accounts can move between servers and take their followers with them, so a choice you regret is not permanent. Worth weighing:
- Who else is there. The local timeline is everyone on your server. That is the part a server's character actually comes from.
- Language and time zone. Mostly determines whether the local timeline reads as a conversation or as noise.
- Who runs it, and whether they say so. Someone has your email address and can read your direct messages. That is true of every server on the network, including the large ones.
- Rules and moderation. Published, and enforced by a person.
